Rainforest Deforestation
To start, deforestation is the clearing, destroying, or otherwise removal of trees through deliberate, natural or accidental means. It can occur in any area densely populated by trees and other plant life, but the majority of it is happening in the Amazon Rainforest. The loss of trees and vegetation can cause climate change, fewer crops to grow, flooding, and worst of all, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The increase of greenhouse gases can cause a multitude of issues for humanity and the environment in which we're living. Deforestation is caused by many things, but the main being so the land can be used for cattle feed and farming. This has been an issue for thousands of years, and continues to grow each year. Decrease in rainforest also means a decrease in habitats for animals, insects and amphibians that inhabit there. "Seventy percent of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests, and many cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes.” (Pachamama). Trees also help to control the amount of water in the atmosphere by aiding in maintaining earth's water cycle. Since deforestation is causing fewer trees to exist, less water is available in the air, this causes dryer soil because less water is able to be returned to it. Dryer soil, naturally is going to lead to a decrease in crops being able to grow.

I like how you pointed out that one cause of deforestation is for farming purposes. I normally, associate deforestation with the building of housing developments, but when you really think about it, we have been creating deforestation for thousands of years by farming. I also like how you highlight that 70% of the earth's land animals and plants live in forests. This means that deforestation can have devastating effects on biodiversity.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you made a full circle when talking about the effects of deforestation. I like how you didn't just focus on one, but you addressed all of the problems that deforestation is having. I also like the way you talked about farming issues related to deforestation because like Paul said it usually isn't associated with farming issues. Overall I think you did a really nice job talking and explaining all the effect deforestation is having on the world.
ReplyDeleteDeforestation is a very important topic that also leads to fragmentation and the extinction of species. How would you suggest preventing deforestation? I agree it should end but there are people who now raise cattle there as you said. How are environmentalists stopping deforestation?
ReplyDeleteThis is a really important topic and should always be discussed. I am glad you talked about the importances of the forests. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour blog post is easy to read and straight to the point. you made it obvious why deforestation is bad and listed different reasons. I think this is a very good posting
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion deforestation is one of the important topics and I like how you talked about this topic and like you how to put some of the important informations such as 70% of Earth's land animals and plants live in the forest.
ReplyDeleteThis was very informative on the problems that deforestation causes and how valuable these forests are to our planet. Biodiversity is dying in this region and needs to be further brought into the eyes of the public.
